The generosity of a couple from regional Victoria will help improve the health of the next generation and help you discover how you could do the same.
Jim and Val have lived in their Corio home since they relocated to Geelong from Ballarat in 1963.
The couple, who celebrate their 67th wedding anniversary this year, share a passion for the environment and are enthusiastic members of the Water Environmental Trust, which cares for 121 hectares in Connewarre.
Just as they care about ensuring the land is there for the next generation to enjoy, they have decided to leave a gift in their will to the Barwon Health Foundation to help improve the state's largest regional health service in the future.
Jim and Val have enjoyed relatively good health and continue to live at home independently despite Jim, 91, undergoing heart bypass surgery at University Hospital Geelong six years ago.
"We couldn't fault the care we received there, it was just wonderful," Val said.
Their bequest could help fast-track a project or equipment purchase that a local family is desperately waiting on to save or improve their life.
Getting their affairs in order while in good health has given them peace of mind.
"It's a comfort," they said. "We've all got to face it some time in life. It's nice to know something positive will happen after we're gone."
