Presented by Palace cinemas, this year's St. Ali Italian Film Festival will play in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra and Byron Bay from September 19 to October 25, kicking off in Sydney.
Audiences will have the chance to watch award-winning dramas, comedies and documentaries.
Opening this year's festival will be director Andrea Di Stefano's dramatic thriller The Last Night of Amore. Starring Pierfrancesco Favino and set in Milan, the film follows a police lieutenant who is drawn into a web of crime and corruption on the eve of his retirement and was a major box office hit in Italy.
Pippo Mezzapesa's intense crime story Burning Hearts is a story of love and revenge. Set in Puglia and shot in black and white, it stars singer Elodie in her first acting role.
Special Presentation Caravaggio's Shadow from writer/director Michele Placido explores the struggles of the brilliant but notorious Renaissance painter as he is investigated by the Vatican, The film stars Riccardo Scamarcio and Isabelle Huppert.
Nanni Moretti's latest offering A Brighter Tomorrow (Il sol dell'avvenire) will arrive at the festival direct from Cannes. The meta-comedy sees the acclaimed director struggling with his family, art and culture.
Starring Toni Servillo, Roberto Ando's Nastro d'Argento Award-winning Film of the Year Strangeness (La stranezza) follows legendary playwright Luigi Pirandello on a trip to Sicily in the 1920s, where he meets a pair of amateur actors - leading to great surprises.
Italian-Australian food writer, TV producer and host Silvia Colloca is ambassador of this year's festival. Silvia will open the festival in both Sydney and Melbourne and will speak about her top festival picks and heritage.
