Nurse Next Door removes stigma from home care

But there is still a stigma around the idea of home care.

Many people continue to hold a fear that if we admit we might need some assistance at home, then we are declining in health.

With a core purpose of Making Lives Better, Nurse Next Door Home Care Services is breaking the stigma and helping people to make the decision to stay in their home for longer.

"There are a lot of myths around the words 'home care' and we want to challenge these misconceptions," said Nurse Next Door Home Care Services chief executive Amber Biesse.

"We want to let people know that the idea of home care is more than just about having someone there to do things for you, but rather empowering you to maintain your independence through positivity and possibility so you can keep living a full life while still being able to live in the comfort of your own home.

Amber said it is all carried out through Nurse Next Door's model of care that focuses on five pillars: Choice, Purpose, Autonomy, Belonging and Respect.

"The power of these pillars are important to all of us and as we age, we all have different needs, wants, goals and an idea of how we want to live the rest of our lives," she said.
