Love, crime, good, evil - Hayes Theatre Co is set to present musical adaptations of two classic tales which explore the darker and lighter aspects of human nature.

The Potts Point based theatre company will present Bonnie and Clyde from June 17, with Jekyll & Hyde - The Musical to open on July 29.

The Tony Award nominated Bonnie and Clyde tells the story of America's most notorious bank robbers and lovers, who went from small town nobodies to international folk heroes during the Great Depression.

The production stars Teagan Wouters and Blake Appelqvist and is produced by Joshua Robson.

"Audiences will love the bold legend of this infamous duo as the two claw their way up from poverty, forgoing family and the law, for love and notoriety," director and choreographer Sam Hooper said.

The non-traditional score was composed by Frank Wildhorn, with lyrics by Don Black and combines blues, gospel and rockabilly music.

Adapted from the Robert Louis Stevenson classic, the production of Jekyll and Hyde comes with an added twist - it is set in a 1947 London military asylum.

Director Hayden Tee said the production aimed to draw parallels between health crises in post war Britain and the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I am fascinated to see what the human race learns from past trauma when dealing with the imminent post pandemic mental health crisis," he said.

The show stars Brendan Maclean as Dr Jekyll and his evil alter-ego Mr Hyde, Brady Peeti as Lucy Harris and Georgina Hopson as Emma Carew.

It features hit songs by Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse, including This is the Moment, In His Eyes, Someone Like You and A New Life.
