From humble beginnings with just four travellers on its first tour, Grand Pacific Tours has grown to be a leader in mature-age travel in New Zealand.
The company marked its 25th anniversary on April 1 - and its success has proved that building a company aimed at the mature-age traveller was certainly no April Fool's joke.
Today, Grand Pacific Tours offers more than 250 guaranteed departures a year, with an 84-page brochure (its first was 12 pages), providing coach holidays to thousands of travellers every year.
Founder Peter Harding says his team has worked incredibly hard to develop an enhanced range of itineraries with multiple options for travellers to choose from.
"We now provide 30 itinerary options with three ways to travel, utilising full-size coaches with capacities of 20, 32 and 48 seats," he said.
"Our position as the market leader for New Zealand coach touring has never been clearer."
A stand-out innovation for the company has been the development of its Ultimate Small Group Touring.
Travellers enjoy a "business class on wheels" experience in state-of-the-art vehicles which normally seat 48 that have been configured to feature only 20 luxury leather seats and extra amenities.
Other touring options Grand Pacific is noted include its Top of the South Island Tour, dedicated options for solo travellers, aviation tours and garden tours.
Mr Harding says his teams in Australia and on the road in New Zealand are major contributors to the company's success story. "Their dedication and loyalty to the brand is undeniable and inspiring," he said.
"The Grand Pacific Tours team has developed strong relationships with a large range of New Zealand operators and are grateful for the exceptional way our travellers are looked after and the true friendships formed within the industry."
There are tours to suit all tastes, durations and budgets.
