SOME of Australia's best young chamber musicians will go head to head in a digital showdown on September 12.
Musica Viva and Melbourne Digital Concert Hall will present a free stream of Strike A Chord - the National Chamber Music Championship.
The championship will involve twelve secondary school aged chamber ensembles of three to eight players or singers.
The 12 finalists will be selected from ensembles from all over Australia who competed in preliminary rounds and will be announced on September 3.
The event will be hosted by ABC Classic presenter Ed Ayres and performances will be live-streamed from five different locations, or pre-recorded if necessary.
Judges will announce winners during the stream and audiences can also have their say in the form of an online vote.
The young musicians will be performing for the first time to Melbourne Digital Concert Hall's community of over 10,000 ticket buyers.
The event's artistic director Wilma Smith said Melbourne Digital Concert Hall had allowed musicians to connect with communities during the pandemic.
"This invitation for our young musicians will give them a national and even international platform to share their performances with teachers, mentors, family and friends," she said.
Organisers will also present a secondary event - Lockdown Legends for ensembles in Victoria and brass and wind ensembles in NSW who have been affected by COVID-19 legislation.
The final round of Lockdown Legends will be streamed on December 6.
