THE wonderful role grandparents, grand friends and kin play will be celebrated on this year's NSW Grandparents Day.
Members of the public can now nominate an extraordinary individual for the 2019 Grandparent of the Year Awards which celebrate the work grandparents, grand friends or kin do for the community.
The state government has also allocated $200,000 for community organisations, small businesses and local councils to host events which bring generations together.
The popular Grandparents Day Photography Competition will be held again this year and gives you a chance to make a star of a wonderful grandparent.
The competition, which always attracts many entries, aims to foster relationships between younger and older generations by capturing their special moments together.
As well as an "Open" category there is a School Student category for students from kindergarten to year 12 to show off their camera skills.
Giving back
Grandparents give so much back," said Seniors minister John Sidoti. "They support our families, make communities stronger and provide invaluable knowledge to others.
"Now is the chance for everyone to say thank you for this contribution and nominate someone deserving for the 2019 Grandparent of the Year Awards.
"I am looking forward to spending time with my family this Grandparents Day and am thrilled there are so many ways people can celebrate."
Last year's winner of the Grandparent of the Year Awards was Warwick Bedford for his involvement in his grandchildren's lives while caring for his wife with a spinal injury.
Nominations for the 2019 Grandparent of the Year Awards are online only and close on September 20 and online entries for the Grandparents Day Photography Competition close on September 15. Grandparents Day will be celebrated on Sunday, October 27.
