WITH more than half of the year already gone, St Johns Ambulance Victoria's community transport service has already transported its 1000th customer for the year.
The service aims to assist vulnerable people to meet their needs by helping to provide them with a safe and reliable means of transport.
The non-profit service is staffed by volunteers..
Mount Waverley resident Kathleen Martin became the services 1000th passenger for the year.
Kathleen started using the service in February and is its second highest booking customer for the year.
She uses the service almost every week to help transport her to a regular medical appointment in Noble Park.
"Every time I've used the service, the St John people are very understanding and helpful, which really puts me at ease when travelling to and from my appointments," Kathleen said.
Since being launched in 2017, the service has become popular, particularly in the Monash area because of its dedicated fleet based in Mount Waverley.
St John Vic has plans to expand the service to the broader Melbourne area in the near future, with its next vehicle set to be operated out of its West Melbourne hub to better service residents in the city's western and northern suburbs.
