A NEWCASTLE-based travel company has chartered an entire five-star river cruise ship to tour the South of France.
Due to depart on September 21, 2019, the cruise will involve 13 days of luxury travel through one of the best food and wine regions in the world. You’ll even get to eat a meal cooked by a Michelin chef.
The tour will include a visit to the acclaimed Beaujolais wine region, a gourmet splurge in Lyon, and dinner and classical music concert in the Pope’s Palace in Avignon.
Adam and Fiona Pearson, who own the five-office Escape Travel franchise in Newcastle, describe the Rhone River cruise as a bucket list trip.
“No travel agent in Australia has ever chartered an entire ship before,” Mr Pearson said.
“We’ve seen some lovely friendships blossom from our group departures and because everyone lives in the same region they can be continued after the trip.
“While we sell holidays for a living, seeing the friendships made and the smiles on our clients’ faces before, during and after their trip, is why we do what we do.”
Itinerary highlights include Paris, Tournon (where you can sample truffles or experience the Chateau de Cormatin with its beautiful gardens and water features), Lyon, the gastronomic heart of France, Viviers (choose between a walking tour and organ recital, and a visit to Ardeche National Park and a kayak through one of Europe’s largest natural canyons), Avignon (where you can shop with a local chef and cook up a storm with your fresh ingredients) and Nice on the Mediterranean coastline.
A variety of options are available to those who would like to extend their trip by staying a few extra days in France or Europe.
