Rosemary and Kevin Clark will be on their way to Cambodia and Vietnam as winners of the Wendy Wu Mighty Mekong Cruise competition.
The prize includes an 11-day experience with highlights including visits to wooden stilt houses in Angkor Ban, the elegant Raffles Hotel LeRoyal, Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda complex in Phnom Penh, and the mesmerising Long Xuyen floating market.
They'll also spend seven nights aboard the luxurious Victoria Mekong ship, where they'll indulge in breathtaking riverscapes, dine in style and enjoy a host of cultural performances on board. The maximum retail value for the prize is $12,998.
All the Lake Coogee, Perth residents - and fellow entrants - had to do was fill in an online entry form and sign up to receive free e-newsletters from The Senior plus Explore, ACM's travel publication. About 6400 entries were received in the competition.
Rosemary was already a subscriber to The Senior's newsletters and found the competition through a Google search.
"I'm always entering competitions," she said.
"We've been talking about doing a trip on the Mekong.. and then bam, we win one!"
The couple have gone on several trips over the years, including multiple visits to Thailand, and have taken a number of caravan trips. But their biggest one was one of Rosemary's bucket-list items: a European river cruise, docking in places including Cologne, Amsterdam and Vienna, in 2019 upon retirement.
Rosemary listed a number of benefits about cruising.
"It's a one-stop; it's like a travelling motel, you just unpack," she said.
"You get on the cruise (ship), you unpack, it takes you to the destinations where you step off and have a look, and then go back to the ship."
While retired, they are kept busy babysitting their grandchild and keeping active with multiple activities.
Rosemary said she liked The Senior as a source for catching up on information relevant to where they are in life - in the retirement phase.
