Roaring attractions around Victorian zoos to take the grandkids to

The ultimate dinosaur experience is coming to life across Victoria with four unique encounters within natural habitats created especially for the prehistoric reptiles at Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary and Kyabram Fauna Park.

Dinos at the Zoo opened on March 29 in time for the Easter school holidays and is free with zoo admission until the end of the Winter school holidays on July 14.

At Melbourne Zoo, visitors can venture along paths not normally open to visitors to discover 16 huge Dinosaurs, their nests and newly hatched young.

And for the budding palaeontologists, there's the chance to uncover a fossil in the sandpits watched over by the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex.

In the west at Werribee Open Range Zoo, take a journey through time and embark on an Indiana Jones inspired prehistoric adventure.

Expect the unexpected and let your imagination run wild as you encounter 14 awe-inspiring Dinosaurs, smoking volcanoes, bubbling swamps, dino footprints and unearth life-like dino fossils.

For those who enjoy an evening adventure, Dinos After Dark will be available at Werribee Open Range Zoo for one week from April 7.

Within the Yarra Valley, step back in time along Healesville Sanctuary's bushland Nature Trail where 16 Dinosaurs roam. Or, for those who prefer a guide, join a free walking tour with a ranger.

Regional Victorians won't miss out, with 15 prehistoric beasts taking up residence at Kyabram Fauna Park.

The dinosaurs will be roaming in a newly created area of the parkland, and visitors will also have the opportunity to make their own discoveries in the fossil dig sandpit.

In an Australian first, Dinos at the Zoo will provide unprecedented access to the deaf and hard of hearing community, with Expression Australia partnering with Zoos Victoria to create a series of videos in Australian Sign Language (Auslan) to provide information on every exhibit, which is instantly activated when a QR code is scanned on a smart device.

Expression Australia chief executive Rebecca Adam hopes the QR code activation will set a new benchmark for inclusion.

"We are very proud to have created a pathway for our community to have equal opportunity to learn about the Dinos at the Zoo through their primary language and truly immerse themselves in the experience."

Zoos Victoria chief executive Dr Jenny Gray said Dinos at the Zoo is going to be a blockbuster event.

"More than 60 dinosaurs will be roaming within natural habitats in unique precincts at each of our four zoos," she said.

"Dinos at the Zoo is a must-see experience that we hope will delight and also inspire visitors to help prevent other species from becoming extinct."

Visitors and Zoo members will be able to support Zoos Victoria's wildlife conservation work by purchasing a Totes for Wildlife bag, which this year features the critically endangered Spotted Tree Frog.

Thanks to the Victorian Government's Kids Go Free program, children under 16 years enjoy free zoo entry to Werribee Open Range Zoo, Melbourne Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary and Kyabram Fauna Park on weekends, Victorian school holidays and public holidays.
