But the cost of car hire may surprise you, as it differs all over in Australia.
A recent study by Radical Storage reveals that the average small car hire now costs $90.18 per day but averages between cities vary by as much as 68.6 per cent.
Data revealed Perth is the most expensive city to rent a small car from in Australia, costing an average of $119.57 per day, while Sydney was revealed to be the least expensive major Australian city to rent a car from ($71.62).
The analysis of car rental costs examined how much it would cost to rent a car per day from 48 of the world's most popular tourist destinations.
It also analysed which city is the most expensive for add-on such as insurance, additional driver and GPS.
In Australia, it found Perth to be the least expensive for add-ons, which together cost just $67.19 per hire.
In comparison, Darwin is the most expensive for add-ons, with the two items costing an average of $97.67 - almost the same price at the daily cost $106.04.
The survey's author notes that some services charge daily for add-ons, whereas others charge per rental period.
This makes it challenging for people to work out total costs, but also could mean that savings could be made by choosing a provider that charges per trip and not per day for add-ons.
Rentals costs in Europe also run the gamut.
Barcelona in Spain offers the most affordable car rental prices on the continent, costing just $40.62 to rent a small car per day.
Make sure you have plenty on the credit card for Innsbruck, Austria, however.
It the most expensive destination to rent a car, costing an eye-watering $290.69 per day for a small car.
One interesting finding was that globally, picking up a car rental from the airport is $22.47 cheaper on average, with 86 per cent of destinations charging less for city rental compared to airport pickup.
