Starting in April, Landsborough Museum will celebrate the region's water sporting history with a Grassroots to Glory exhibition and digital story.
The event will be repeated every subsequent April through to the Brisbane Olympic Games in 2032, focusing on a specific area of sport each year.
Given the theme's depth, the exhibition will be divided into three main topics:
- Under the water: This might be diving, sea harvesting or scuba diving.
- On the water: Boating, outrigging, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, water-skiing, surfing/body boarding/aquaplaning.
- In the water: Swimming, lifesaving/nippers, water polo.
As to what to share, the team says it could be anything - from a diver's helmet to nippers' hats, a lifeguard flag, trophies, or a locally made surfboard. It could be something you don't want, like "the prized fishing nets bequeathed by dear old Uncle Ernie".
Social water sport lovers, coaches, local clubs, professional athletes, the chap who built the water ski ramps - items and stories can come from any era or decade.
