Now he's doing it again. The historian and tour leader has released an updated 2023 edition of Walking with the Anzacs, his easy-to-follow guide to researching, planning and exploring the places where Diggers fought.
The book covers the five main areas of Anzac troop operation in dedicated chapters: Belgium, French Flanders, the Somme, Hindenburg Line and the Aisne.
Each chapter includes an overview of the history of WWI in the area and is then further indexed into the key battles that took place in the region - covering 14 of the most significant Anzac battles in total.
It lists the most essential battlefields for Australians to visit, including Ypres, Messines, Fromelles, Pozieres and Villers-Bretonneux and Bullecourt, but also of lesser known but important sites.
The book provides illustrated walking tours, comprehensive descriptions of the battles, and stories and moving quotes from the Australians who witnessed the battle first-hand.
Mat McLachlan Battlefield Tours takes thousands of Australians to battlefields around the world each year.
