The Big Things In Store open day will take place in the Treloar Technology Centre from 10am on September 2 and tickets to the free event are available now.
The event offers a rare opportunity to see some of the Memorial's newest acquisitions, as well as much loved objects from the National Collection which are not currently on public display.
Memorial director Matt Anderson said the day was all about providing "greater access" to the collection.
"This is a first glimpse of some of the items yet to be added to new gallery displays," Mr Anderson said.

"There are currently more than 121,000 items in store and this is a chance for the public to gain a much greater appreciation of the Australian War Memorial's full collection."
Held at the Treloar Technology Centre, the event is a one-day opportunity for the community to take a look at the Memorial's extensive collection.
New acquisitions on display will include the memorial's first Black Hawk Army helicopter - the Saracen Sikorsky S-70. The chopper performed 30 years of service including peacekeeping and humanitarian operations.
Other aircraft on display will include a G for George Avro Lancaster Mk I Bomber, F/A-18 Classic Hornet and Boeing CH-47 Chinook helicopter.
Visitors are encouraged to book a ticket to ensure admittance. Each ticket provides admittance to a two-hour session on the day.
