The Underground Motel is one of only three "dugout" motels in Australia but with 48 rooms, it is the largest, not just here but in the world.
It attracts guests from around the world who enjoy a constant temperature of 22C as well as a licensed restaurant, café and bar.
The quirky, opal mining township of White Cliffs is located in far west NSW, 1025 kilometres from Sydney and 781 kilometres north-east of Adelaide.
It is famed for its raw, raffish charm and abundance of colourful characters.
Miners have been living there since the 1890s, building dugouts in the hillside to escape the searing heat - summer temperatures regularly reach over 40°C.

Today there about 100 underground buildings of various sizes, including galleries and shops where opals are sold.
Above ground, there is also a pub and general store.
The township is also home to Australia's first large-scale solar power plant (now defunct), Bill O'Reilly Oval, with not a blade of grass, and stunning night skies.
From June to March, nearby Paroo-Darling National Park is a great place to see Sturt's desert pea in its fiery-red glory, depending on rainfall.
Out of the Ordinary Outback, which owns The Underground Motel, is offering a three-day package including town tours and subterranean accommodation.
Its Experience White Cliffs package includes two nights' underground accommodation, a bar drink on arrival, continental breakfast each day, an opal mine tour with a local opal hunter, a visit to an underground house and a tour of White Cliffs with a local expert.
Until the end of September, guests can also enjoy the daily campfire at sunset for guests overlooking the sweeping plain, with complimentary snacks available.
The package is available for $495 per couple - a saving of $160 on full pricing.
A special two-course dinner package of $180 per couple is also available covering dinners for two nights at the motel's restaurant.
Out of the Ordinary Outback owns six other properties far west NSW - Broken Hill Outback Resort, The Argent Motel and The Tourist Lodge in Broken Hill, the Copper City Motel/Hotel in Cobar; Warrawong on the Darling at Wilcannia; and the Ivanhoe Hotel Motel.
