Carers Australia invites Australian carers to complete wellbeing survey

This year's survey is now open, with all Australian carers invited to contribute their feedback by the March 31 closing date.

Ms Brook said the survey was all about compiling more comprehensive data about the wellbeing of carers in the community and how they are handling the responsibility.

"How are you travelling as a carer? How's your physical health? How's your resilience? What are you missing out on? how's your financial wellbeing?" she said.

"An annual survey helps us to track carer wellbeing over time, then you get to see things like the impact of COVID on a carer over time. That's just one example."

Ms Brook said the survey was not only for primary carers - the organisation would also like to hear from joint and part time carers.

"It really is for everyone who is in a caring role. If you're contributing to caring in some way, we want to know what your experience is."

The purpose of the annual survey is to ensure the organisation has the strongest data possible and a good representative sample.

"Each year we're hoping to have a larger number of people complete it so that we can compare [results] over time in really large numbers."

The survey is undertaken by Carers Australia, the Department of Social Services and the University of Canberra, with funding provided by the federal government.

Ms Brook said the survey served as an important tool for government service planning. Feedback generated will also be used by advocates to push for policy reform and improve carer wellbeing and support.

Participants can choose a long or short version of the survey and will go into a draw to win a gift card.

"The process is easy, but it asks quite in depth questions about how you're travelling in your own life," she said.

The survey is available in English, simplified Chinese, Arabic, Italian and Vietnamese.
