From Longreach in Queensland to Alice Springs at the very heart of the nation, these outback tours from The Senior and Travelrite International will reveal a side to Australia not often seen.

The fun begins in Longreach, home of our national carrier and the Qantas Founders Museum. We'll view life-size exhibits, historical artefacts and interactive displays as well as a Boeing 707, Boeing 747 and Super Constellation and DC-3.

Later, we visit the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame, which tells the story of rural Australia.

Moving on to Winton, we travel back to when dinosaurs ruled the Earth. At the Lark Quarry Dinosaur Trackways we'll see fossilised footprints from a dinosaur stampede 95 million years ago.

In the evening, sit back and check out a movie at Winton's Royal Theatre, one of a handful of open air picture theatres in Australia.

Mt Isa is the next stop in our sights, but before we leave Winton we spend time at the Waltzing Matilda Centre to learn the story behind the poem by Banjo Paterson wrote in the area in 1895.

We'll take a break in McKinlay for a "coldie" at the Walkabout Creek Hotel, made famous in the film Crocodile Dundee, before travelling through the ochre-red Selwyn Ranges to the silver, copper, zinc and lead mining town of Mt Isa.

The following morning we're off to Birdsville situated between the eastern edge of the Simpson Desert, the vast gibber plains of Sturt's Stony Desert and the rich Channel Country to the north.

A local guide will will show us the town before we head out of town to see (and climb if you like) Big Red, a huge sand dune at the edge of the Simpson Desert.

After a busy day's sightseeing, travellers might like to relax with a brew at the Birdsville Hotel.

Innamincka is south-west as the crow flies. Close to town is the grave of ill-fated explorer Robert Burke from the 1860-1861 Burke and Wills expedition. The scenery along Cooper Creek is stunning, with beautiful water holes, fabulous gum trees and colourful birds.

Day nine brings the tour to the true outback town of Tibooburra in the Corner Country of far western NSW. Along the way we'll visit Cameron Corner, where the borders of NSW, Queensland and South Australia meet. We'll also see the famous Dingo Fence.

It's then on to Broken Hill for a thorough exploration of this fascinating outback mining town including White's Mineral and Mining Museum, the Sculptures and Living Desert Sanctuary, the Pro Hart Gallery and the old mining town of Silverton and its world-famous hotel which has featured in movies and television commercials.

The tour next heads west to Port Augusta at the top of Spencer Gulf. A town tour includes the Wadlata Outback Centre to see the Tunnel of Time.

Heading north, we move on to Coober Pedy to be captivated by the town's many underground dwellings and even have the chance to search for our own opals.

The tour finishes up in Alice Springs where we'll see Anzac Hill, the MacDonnell Ranges, the Old Telegraph Station Reserve, The Flying Doctor's Memorial and Simpsons Gap.
