A 10-day rail adventure inspired by events that helped build the nation will weave its way through the borderlands of NSW and Queensland from April 27-May 6 next year.
The fully escorted 10-day Borderlands Steam Adventure will mark important events such as the linking of the colonies by rail in 1888 at Wallangarra and the Tenterfield Oration by Sir Henry Parkes the following year.
Revolutions in railway-building will also be explored on the tour, which take guests on rare sections of the region's railways not normally traversed by passenger trains.
Highlights include a privately chartered QR Heritage train from Ipswich to Toowoomba, a visit to the world-class collection at the Ipswich Rail Museum and a scenic run up the range to explore the iconic Spring Bluff Station.
There will be a steam train journey across the plains to Goondiwindi, breakfast on the platform at the historic Wallangarra station, a private steam train charter from Wallangarra to Toowoomba and private heritage railmotor tour from Moree to Armidale.
Travellers will explore Tenterfield's museums and historic houses in Armidale and enjoy grand dinners at Gundy, Tenterfield, Armidale and Warwick. A celebratory farewell dinner will be held at Downs Steam Museum.
