North Sydney Community Centre is turning 50, and the city is planning one big celebration.

The centre will host a day of free, engaging and fun activities to celebrate the milestone on September 17.
The celebration will be officially opened by North Sydney Mayor Zoe Baker, followed by a cooking demonstration from celebrity chef Luca Ciano.
Other activities and entertainment will include musical performances by Sentosa Trio and Mighty Bullfrogs, pop up classes, workshops,a jumping castle, face painting and children's entertainment from the Rainbow Fairy.
North Sydney Community Centre opened its doors as an after-school care program for families in 1972.
It has since expanded its services to include adult classes, workshops, a playgroup, the popular Northside Produce Market and venue hire.
Since then, the Centre has educated and entertained the community, expanding its services to Adult Classes, Workshops, Explorers Playgroup, Northside Produce Market and Venue Hire.
Centre director Michelle Worthley said the centre had become a valued place for parents, children, students, teachers and creatives.
"We're proud that the Centre continues to encourage life-long learning, social connection and wellbeing for people of all ages", she said.
Celebrations will take place from 10am-4pm.
