The NSW Upper House Standing Committee on Social Issues has begun an inquiry into homelessness among people aged over 55.
"Older people rely on housing for their health and wellbeing, but there are concerns homelessness is on the rise for this demographic," said Standing Committee on Social Issues chair Scott Barrett.
"This inquiry will examine the rate of homelessness and factors affecting the incidence of homelessness among older people, as well as impacts on health and wellbeing and challenges in navigating homelessness services."
The committee will also look at opportunities for change and improvement, including early intervention, services to support older people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, options to better support people to obtain and maintain secure accommodation, and best practice approaches in other jurisdictions.
The committee is due to report by September 30.
Submissions are being sought from stakeholders and members of the public, and close on May 29.
