Back in the 1990s Melbourne musician, John Howie, came up with the idea of running a Music Tour of Ireland. At the time he was a secondary school music teacher (he taught Kylie Minogue, in the 1980s). He was also a part-time musician, performing and recording with his twin brother, Graeme, as The Howie Brothers.

John's inaugural Music Tour of Ireland, in 1995, was a great success. Over the years Australian travel company, Travelrite International, and John have expanded their music tours, with many different tours (and music cruises) in Australia and around the world.

The tours are group sightseeing tours, with music as a special focus. For many people - those who love to travel and also love music - these tours are the ideal travel option.

The John Howie/Travelrite music tours include many major music festivals/shows/music precincts, including: Edinburgh Tattoo & Edinburgh Fringe Festival; Chicago Blues Festival; French Quarter (New Orleans); Grand Ole Opry (Nashville); Beale Street (Memphis); Andre Rieu concert (Maastricht, Netherlands); Moulin Rouge Cabaret Show (Paris); Port Fairy Folk Festival; Byron Bay BluesFest.

John's tours have outstanding itineraries, and are full of wonderful highlights and experiences. Some of his favourites: the west coast of Ireland, including the Dingle Peninsula; the north-west coast of Scotland, including the Orkney Islands; having lunch with an Amish family, in Pennsylvania; boat cruise on the bayous & lakes of the western Louisiana swamp country; Al Green's church service (Memphis). He also loves the Australian outback, Tasmania, and New Zealand. Two of his favourite cities are Dublin and Amsterdam.
