THE beautiful Islands of Fiji will be open to visitors once again starting this December.
Fijian Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama announced the plan to reopen for tourists for the first time in two years, with the first flight on Fiji Airways scheduled for December 1.
The announcement was made on Fiji Day - a celebration of the nation's independence which falls on October 10.
"To our friends in Australia and New Zealand and to the residents of other countries we're preparing to welcome, our message is simple: Fiji is ready to welcome you back to our shores," Mr Bainimarama said.
He said the government was confident in the nation's ability to manage the risks of quarantine free travel.
"Our planes are prepared, our airports are adapted. Every... hotel and tour operator in Fiji will be certified under the Care Fiji Commitment program."
The program is a World Health Organisation approved standard of best practice health and safety measures for travel in the post-COVID world.
Every person in Fiji that visitors interact with will have a dedicated Wellness Ambassador responsible for keeping everybody safe, but travel insurance is still highly recommended.
Mr Bainimarama said visitors could expect the warm levels of hospitality they were accustomed to prior to the pandemic.
Fiji has reached its milestone of 80 per cent of the eligible population being vaccinated.
Some travel and entry requirements will remain in place to ensure the safety of visitors and locals.
Visitors must be vaccinated and come from a travel partner country such as Australia.
They will be required to complete a PCR test less than three days prior to departure from their home countries. Travellers will also be expected to meet the PCR requirements of their home countries on their return.
Unvaccinated children under the age of 18 will be allowed to travel if accompanied by a vaccinated adult.
Land and air travel packages will soon be available to book, however, travellers can reserve their flights now on Fiji Airways.
