During this annual migration coastal destinations including Sydney and the Central Coast become whale-watching meccas from around mid-May to October.
One of the best ways to see Hhumpback whales in their natural environment as they make the 3500km journey north is aboard a cruise.
Captain Cook Cruises runs whale watching tours from Sydney's Darling Harbour. And the good news you can double the value of your NSW Dine & Discover voucher (available for NSW residents aged 18 and over) and get a cruise ticket for $49 with a voucher (normally $99) valid until June 30.
Captain Cook Cruises general manager, Nick Lester, said positioned mid-way along the route, Sydney is the perfect place to spot these amazing creatures.
"Whale sightings peak off Sydney between June and July during the northern migration and between September and October during the southern migration.
"In August, whale behaviour is often more spectacular with younger males showing off to guests with amazing breaches."
Captain Cook Cruises whale watching tours operate on catamarans with indoor seating and multi-level viewing.
Passenger numbers are strictly limited to ensure everyone has great views of all the action while the onboard marine naturalist provides expert commentary and insights into the whale behaviour.
The three-hour whale watching tours depart 10am daily during school holidays and on weekends throughout the season, from May 22 to October 31.
Additional afternoon tours operate at 1.15pm on weekends. All tours leave from Darling Harbour, King St Wharf 2.
There are three ways to save on a Captain Cook Cruise whale watching tour: use your NSW Dine & Discover voucher, book a pre-season ticket, or book online.
If your whale-spotting plans are for the July school holidays, or if you are travelling to Sydney from interstate, pre-season tickets are also available from $59 for travel to July 11.
Pre-season tickets must be bought before May 20 to take advantage of the discounts.
Specials are available from $65 per person for travel from July 12 with under-4s free.
