This year's festival will take place over 23 days, from August 6-28.
The event will light up streets, buildings and venues across the Sydney CBD, Darling Harbour, The Rocks and Circular Quay.
Buildings and structures transformed for the event will include the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Customs House and the Sydney Opera House, which will have its sails lit and host Vivid LIVE.
Digital clocks have been set up in First Fleet Park, The Rocks and Wulugul Walk, Barangaroo, counting down the days until 'lights on' for this year's festival.
Festival director Gill Minervini said this year's program would feature several first-time program inclusions.
"The facade of Customs House will be brought to life with VORAX - an epic 3D tale of a mischievous thief's rise to greatness from Hong Kong's Treacle Media," Gill said.
Other highlights will include Ephemeral on the popular light walk at Darling Harbour's Cockle Bay and Point of View, an installation that will provide insight into the art of portraiture in The Rocks.
