THE new WA museum in the Perth Cultural Centre will launch a nine day opening celebration in November.

A total of 50,000 free, timed tickets for the opening celebration will be allocated to applicants.

Interested people can apply via a public ballot which will close on September 30 and each applicant can request up to six tickets.

The museum has added an Aboriginal name - Boola Bardip, which means many stories in the Noongar language.

The name recognises the Whadjuk Noongar land which the museum sits on, and honours the cultural heritage of Australia's First Peoples.

The museum focuses on the shared cultural heritage of Western Australians with a focus on exploring the state's people, places and connection to the world.

Once inside, visitors will encounter exhibitions, thousands of objects from the museum's collection, items from the museum's scientific collections, interactive technology and much more.

They will also find the stories and perspectives of many Western Australians, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and multicultural citizens.

Visits will be restricted to two hours during the opening period - which will be from November 21-29, to give as many people as possible a chance to visit.

The museum will move to regular visitation hours from November 30.
