THESE residents at Nellie Melba Retirement Village in Melbourne may be in lockdown but that certainly hasn't dampened their party spirit.
The groovy residents at the Wheeler's Hill village have been showing off their disco moves during the village's regular socially-distanced dance parties.
Village manager Mark Owens said the Move and Groove balcony sessions, which have been held three times a week, have been hugely popular with residents.
"Just like it is for everyone, keeping fit and active and having things to look forward to is even more important at the moment," he said.
"Residents can just step out onto their balcony and get into it, which is great.
"And with everyone's movements so restricted at the moment, theres a really powerful social element to it its a chance to see your neighbours and catch up with them across the courtyard."
And its not just the residents strutting their stuff. "Me and the rest of the staff love joining in, too its a heck of a lot of fun," said Mr Owens.
The video of one of the balcony ballads sessions has already attracted thousands of views on Facebook.
"It's gone a bit viral on social media, it seems. The residents and staff have gotten a real kick out of that, and family members have really enjoyed seeing their loved ones having so much fun during the lockdown," added Mr Owens.
Nellie Melba village is run by Ryman Healthcare, and the balcony sessions are just one of several ways the aged care providers is helping residents through COVID-19.
Its a challenging time for everyone at the moment, but our residents arent locking themselves away and feeling sorry for themselves. They're getting on with it and they're doing it with a smile on their face.
"We're working hard to make sure residents can get everything they need without having to venture out," said Mr Owens.
