Using cutting-edge technology, the museum will offer a new way to journey through history, bringing Sydney's complex past to life more authentically than ever before.
Led by groundbreaking audio technology, visitors follow in the footsteps of real people who encountered the barracks.
The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Hyde Park Barracks is one of the most significant convict sites in the world.
Commissioned in 1817 by Governor Lachlan Macquarie, the building was designed by convict architect Francis Greenway and built to house male convicts.

After 1848 it sheltered immigrant young women and cared for older sick and poor women.
At the heart of the new experience is the significant archaeological collection of more than 4000 original objects, many on display for the first time.
"Audiences around the world are looking for more from their museum visit than just seeking information," said Sydney Living Museums executive director Adam Lindsay.
