THE theme was Step into Spring, but they really swung into spring at the Round Dance Association of Victoria's 12th Spring Festival this month.
Dancers from Melbourne and interstate enjoyed a "trail-in" dance on Friday September 6 in the city's south-east to get to know each other before dancing began in earnest on Saturday afternoon.
World-renowned dance teachers and cuers Paula and Warwick Armstrong, from Queensland, taught a new phase 5 quickstep and phase 4 waltz and a phase 4 rumba.
Saturday night was party night with dinner and dancing.
Association president Ella Whyte has been running the Sunnyside Rounds at Heatherton for more than 60 years, and in keeping with tradition, all the cuers, festival committee and interstate dancers were invited to a special breakfast on the Sunday morning. About 30 dancers attended.
Round dancing is cued choreographed ballroom dancing and is considered the easiest way to learn to dance.
