Cirque du Soleil returns Australia this month with an acclaimed new show, KURIOS - Cabinet of Curiosities, which it describes as "a tale in which time comes to a complete stop, transporting the audience inside a fantasy world where everything is possible".
Set in the latter half of the 19th century, it presents an alternative yet familiar past, in a place where wonders abound for those who trust their imagination, filled with outlandish, benevolent characters.
KURIOS made its world premiere in Cirque de Soleil's home city of Montreal in 2014. It arrives with a cast of 47 artists from 17 countries including gymnasts, acrobats, contortionists, hand-puppeteers, yo-yo- wizards, clowns, actors and musicians.
Established in 1984 with just 20 street performers, Cirque du Soleil has reinvented circus art. Its shows been seen by more than 190 million spectators in almost 459 cities in 60 countries.
Director Michel Laprise says: "Ever since my first visit-Australia nearly 15 years ago it has been one of my favourite places on Earth. I am thrilled that I can return through the spirit of KURIOS and I hope it will inspire and bring joy to everyone who enters into our special realm of reality under our big top."
