LOVERS of music, glitz and glamour take note - the critically acclaimed Australian production Moulin Rouge! The Musical will head to Melbourne's Regent Theatre in 2021.
The adaptation of the classic Baz Luhrmann blockbuster is currently playing to packed houses on Broadway.
The new hit show features some of the greatest popular music of the last 50 years, including many of the classic songs from the 2001 movie starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, and some recent hits released since the film's release.
It will be brought to Australia by Gerry Ryan and Carmen Pavlovic on behalf of Global Creatures in conjunction with major events minister Martin Pakula.
Gerry Ryan and Carmen Pavlovic said it was an honour for their Australian company to premiere a new musical on Broadway and receive such a warm reception from critics and audiences alike.
Minister Pakula said the musical would be "a major winner" for Victoria.
"Melbourne's thriving cultural scene and its major events calendar are renowned around the world and securing huge productions like this is why we are so highly regarded," he said.
Directed by Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers, the production is choreography by Sonya Tayeh with music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Justin Levine.
The show's design team includes Tony Award winners Derek McLane, Catherine Zuber, Peter Hylenski and two time nominee Justin Townsend.
The 20th Century Fox film premiered at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, was nominated for eight Oscars, including Best Picture, and won two.
The Moulin Rouge of Paris started out as a popular cabaret and dance hall and became a world famous music hall in the twenties.
Numerous famous French and international artists burst into the public eye at the venue.
