Aged care provider Feros Care is looking for 15 spoken word fans aged 70 and over from the Gold Coast and NSW Northern Rivers region who are interested in learning how to write and perform slam poetry.
Gran Slam is a collaboration between Feros Care and performance producer Everybody NOW.
The seniors will work with poet and literary performer David Stavanger, and take part in a series of poetry workshops on the southern Gold Coast.
The project will culminate in a performance that will be captured on film and screened at Byron Writers Festival.
"We're looking for people with a declaration to make, a voice to be heard, an opinion to be penned," said a Feros Care spokesperson.
Participants don't need to be well-versed wordsmiths, but just have enthusiasm and a desire to learn new skills.
"The Gran Slam project will give you the skills and platform to express yourself through prose and performance, and access to a wealth of knowledge that will ensure your final performance is a success."
Everybody NOW's executive producer Kate Baggerson described 'slam' as a style of rhythmic performance poetry that can move and inspire both the writer and the audience.
David Stavanger is an award-winning and widely published poet and writer who has directed and featured in major festivals - often under the alias of Ghostboy - including Queensland Poetry Festival, Brisbane Writers Festival, and Sydney Writers Festival.
He is also the co-editor of the first ever Australian & New Zealand spoken word anthology Solid Air.
Participants need to be available from June 29-30 and July 13-14, and will be invited to attend a screening at the Byron Writers Festival on August 1.
