Yes, instead of shopping for white skirts, shirts and sweatbands, lovely ladies like Adelaide retiree Dorothy Farmer are opting for feathers and lace and a bit of bling.
And good on them.
We're constantly being told to move it or lose it: and strutting your stuff burlesque-style certainly fits the bill.
Dorothy, who features in an article by Eileen Wood in The Senior South Australia's June edition, struts her stuff at the Choo la la burlesque-fusion dance school in Woodville, releasing her inner showgirl with women of all ages and backgrounds.
The group even performed at the Adelaide Fringe Festival earlier this year, the sixth time it has done so.
The fun-loving 66-year-old has been learning burlesque-fusion, a combination of burlesque and other dance styles, for the past year, and also joins in weekly burlesque singing classes.
No stranger to hoofing it, she has also learned belly dancing and flamenco.
"I don't think age should be a barrier for anyone," Dorothy said.
"I like meeting new people, doing new things and challenging myself."
Choo la la founder Mel Cherrett describes the dance school as a "special place where women can come and feel safe to express themselves and feel empowered by all the girls around them".
"It's a sisterhood, a tribe of women who support each other, laugh and have fun," she said. "We started Choo la la in a small church with five women. Now seeing 300 beautiful local ladies performing at the Fringe was just a dream come true."
Mel describes burlesque as the perfect way to spice up your life while keeping fit. And whether you're a complete novice or you've danced all your life, you'll be made more than welcome.
Classes are held at eight locations in South Australia, five in NSW and three in Victoria, with plans to open 16 more dance studios by the end of the year.
So what are you waiting for, ladies? Grab your bows and boas, bling it up and give burlesque a go. You can find out more at www.choolala.com.au.
