AS National Volunteer Week approaches, Victoria's oldest and largest food relief organisation Foodbank Victoria is seeking new volunteers to help a number of its metropolitan and regional charity partners..
The annual week long event to acknowledge volunteers and encourage more to put their hands up will take place from May 20-26..
Foodbank Victoria chief executive David McNamara said volunteers were needed for many of the organisation's partners, which total over 400.
He said a number of partners, including Darebin Information Volunteer and Resource Service (DIVRS) were in need of help to run their food relief programs.
Preston based DIVRS provides a range of services for low-income residents - including food parcels and food growing programs.
The latest Foodbank Hunger Report found 57 per cent of its partners had seen an increase in people seeking food relief over the past 12 months and were being forced to turn away around 12,000 each month.
Last year 2721 people volunteered almost 30,000 hours worth of time to Foodbank Victoria..
"It's an honour and a privilege to see how many dedicated Victorians are continually motivated to join our cause and share our vision of healthy food for all," Mr McNamara said.
