CAN you sit through 17 hours of train watching?
The train journey between Perth and Sydney will be revealed in detail when The Indian Pacific: Australia's Longest Train Journey hits screens in January with SBS's second foray into Slow TV.
Following the episode on The Ghan that aired earlier this year and introduced Australia to Slow TV, the documentary of never-before-seen footage will take viewers on a journey from Perth, across the Nullarbor and South Australia, through the Blue Mountains and into Sydney.
Viewers will be able to watch the dramatic changes in scenery unfold from the verdant Avon Valley out of Perth, to the sparse Nullarbor, through South Australia's farmland and into the impressive Blue Mountains.
The footage, captured by nine cameras on the train and one from a helicopter, embraces all angles of the journey and will be interspersed with facts and short anecdotes that will appear on screen.
The Indian Pacific is one of the world's few truly transcontinental journeys travelling from the Indian Ocean in the west, across Australia to the Pacific Ocean in the east over a distance of more than 4,000 kilometres.
It includes the longest straight stretch of railway track in the world – a distance of 478 kilometres from Loongana in Western Australia to Ooldea in South Australia.
You can tune in to The Indian Pacific: Australia's Longest Train Journey for three hours on SBS on Sunday January 6 from 7:30pm.
The full 17-hour documentary will screen all day on SBS Viceland on Saturday January 12.
