Over 50’s lifestyle community operator Halcyon celebrating Queensland Seniors Week in style with a range of activities across three of its south east Queensland communities.
This year’s Seniors Week is a celebration of the active modern senior, and Halcyon is putting on events to tie in with this theme.
As pioneers of the American over-50s pickleball phenomenon in Australia, Halcyon is hosting a number of workshops run by pickleball coach Keith Bing coach, in a bid to showcase the game in south east Queensland.
The sport, which is booming in the USA, combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis and can be played indoors or outdoors on badminton-sized courts.
Keith Bing will bring his knowledge of the sport Halcyon Greens on the Gold Coast on August 24 and Halcyon Glades at Caboolture on August 25.
Former Olympian and Queensland swimming icon Lisa Curry will also be running a Happy Healthy You seminar at Halcyon Lakeside on August 26 which will showcase the benefits of maintaining strong hormonal balances.
The Happy Healthy You seminar will give participants the opportunity to understand their hormonal needs and address issues and imbalances.
The seminar will give participants insight into the factors that contribute to hormonal imbalance such as stress, poor sleep and lack of exercise and provide the necessary steps to reach hormonal balance.
Halcyon joint managing director Dr Bevan Geissmann said Halcyon want to celebrate its homeowners and visitors during seniors week and have ensured there is plenty going on across the communities.
“The new adage is that 60 is the new 50 and our communities reflect the needs of the modern-day Ssenior who wants to stay healthy and active, having access to an array of activities and a sense of community,” said Dr Geissmann.
“We have organised activities that reflect the new lease on life offered to seniors across our communities”.
Earlier in the week, celebrity chef Matt Golinski and local farmer and founder of Kookaburra Organics Gary Hands held a paddock to plate workshop at Halycon Glades.
The paddock to plate concept saw dishes whipped up with fresh produce sourced locally and from Halcyon Glades’ community gardens.
Matt and Gary held a session on crops in pots and followed it up with a cooking lesson using the fresh-grown produce, proving that you don’t need a lot of space or money to grow your own food and create fresh, delicious meal.
Halcyon has completed four communities on the Gold and Sunshine coasts and has three active developments under way – Halcyon Greens at Pimpama, Halcyon Lakeside at Bli Bli and Halcyon Glades at Caboolture.
