Leura Gardens Festival, now in its 54th year, will feature 10 spring gardens which will be open over two long weekends.
This year’s gardens offer a wide range of garden styles and sizes to provide food for thought and inspiration for all gardeners.
On show will be rhododendrons, azaleas, tulips, bluebells, peonies, and cool-climate trees such as maples, dogwoods and ornamental cherries.
Visitors to the festival can also enjoy the Music in the Gardens program, this year with new and returning artists. Entry is a gold coin donation with performances held daily from 1pm in the grounds of the Waldorf Leura Gardens Resort.
The Society of Mountain Artists will also be putting on the Art Show with work created in the gardens and there will also be the Festival Plant Sales Centre, with heaps of plants and garden accessories on offer.
The festival’s key aim is raising money for the Blue Mountains District Anzac Memorial Hospital, said Leura Gardens Festival Committee president Brooke Broughton.
“The first festival was held in 1965 and since then has grown into an event that attracts visitors from not only around Australia but from overseas as well.
“It began with the specific aim of raising money to buy equipment for the Blue Mountains District Anzac Memorial Hospital. This is still the festival’s key aim, and its success in recent years has also allowed donations to other local health-related organisations.”
She said after 35 years of successfully opening the festival for nine days and an ever-increasing number of festival visitors, the committee decided it was time to review the format.
“This year the festival will be held over two long weekends, allowing the gardens and the garden owners to have a well-earned mini break.
“This year more than 400 local people will give their time and energy to ensure visitors are well looked after and that the festival is a success.”
The festival is open over two long weekends, from September 30-October 1 and then October 5-7.
Tickets are $25 per person to visit all gardens or $8 per garden.
