Mention Mudgee and your thoughts wander to days spent sampling local wines at cellar doors, feasting on epicurean delights and then walking it all off in stunning surroundings.
While it’s true Mudgee, on the banks of the Cudgegong River, is a great getaway any time of year, September is a highlight in the country town’s calendar.
It’s when many visitors flock to the region for the month-long Mudgee Wine and Food Festival – one of Australia’s longest-running wine and food festivals.
Festivities kick off on September 7 and run until October 1 with events including live music, tastings, lunches, dinners and tours. The headline event is the Flavours of Mudgee in the CBD on September 22 from 4pm.
Join winegrowers, producers, bakers, cooks, distillers and brewers for tastings and meals with a backdrop of historic buildings and the famous Clock Tower. Entry is free, with tokens and glasses available to buy for wine tasting.
Here are some other festival events:
- Serious wine lovers may want to secure tickets for the Mudgee Wine Show, from September 4-6, followed by the Mudgee Wine Show Dinner at Craigmoor Pavilion on September 7 where you sit alongside winemakers for a locally-inspired dinner.
