SHAKESPEARE is alive in Sydney.
A full-scale, working replica of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre built in 1614 has popped up in Moore Park’s Entertainment Quarter.
The three-storey, 16-sided, 900-person capacity theatre unites cutting-edge scaffold technology with a 400-year-old design to make audience members feel like they’ve been transported back in time.
After a well-received season in Melbourne, the Pop-Up Globe is now bringing four Shakespearean plays to NSW.
From August 30, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Merchant of Venice, Macbeth and The Comedy of Errors will come to life on stage.
The shows are expected to be so popular, organiser Live Nation has already extended the season by two weeks until November 4.
Pop-Up Globe founder and artistic director Miles Gregory said audiences were “blown away” seeing Shakespeare’s work performed in the space it was written for.
“This isn’t dusty Shakespeare. This is now. Alive. Like a party,” Dr Gregory said.
“The relationship between actor and audience, the spectacular space itself, together with the power of Shakespeare’s incredible work, means attending plays at the Pop-Up Globe is totally different from anything you’ve seen before.”
Tickets start at $29.51 plus a handling fee of $5.95.
