EVER wondered what it would be like to visit Canada in winter? Would it be too cold?
Well Quebec City Tourism (QCT), in collaboration with Ateliers du Carnaval de Quebec, has come up with a unique way to let you experience winter right in the middle of summer so you can put it to the test.
A 7.6 x 2.7 metre container, refrigerated to between -15.5C and -13.3C and decked out with all the trappings of the snow season, offers tourists a feel for a Québec winter, with ice sculptures, a mini ice hotel, a ski lift, a Québec décor, and videos on popular seasonal activities.
QCT hit on the idea two years ago to let summer visitors in on the magic of Québec City winters. Their hope is that it will increase the number of tourists visiting over winter.
The new attraction is open noon to 9 pm seven days a week, all summer long until September 3, and is located next to Dufferin Terrace between the Samuel de Champlain monument and the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac Hotel. This is a favourite spot for tourists because it offers sweeping views of the St. Lawrence River.
