Neidra is a member and past president of Hallett Cove Senior Citizens Club and has been playing indoor bowls since 2003.
“I’m not one to sit around at home and after my husband had a heart attack and a stroke, we started playing indoor bowls as it gave us the opportunity to get out,” she said.
“At indoor bowls people understood him and could help him even when he was losing strength or track of the rules. It’s very social and the players help each other.
“I used to play tennis and then I played lawn bowls for a few years but now it is easier for me to continue playing indoor bowls.
“The commitment is only one day a week and you can play no matter what the weather is.”

Neidra believes it is important for older people to get out, socialise and stay active as long as possible.
To celebrate 50 years since the first Associated Senior Clubs of SA indoor bowls competition, the association is encouraging any clubs that are interested to register for this year’s event.
“This year we are opening the competition to any clubs that would like to enter a team of four players, including those from retirement villages,” said association secretary Geoff Beaty.
The competition will take place on September 12-13 at the Marion Fitness and Leisure Centre. Entry fee is $25 per team and entries close on August 31.
