Every time one of Robyn Nixon's grandchildren turns 12 she takes them on an Intrepid trip with her.
And according to Intrepid Travel, multi-generation family holidays are now a staple not a trend.
The company recently launched its inaugural Adventure Travel Index, which group chief executive James Thornton says, proves adventure travellers aren't defined by age by all. Travellers of all ages are choosing places like Peru, Cambodia, Morocco, Cuba and India for their holidays.
"Family holidays won't be exclusively marketed to the nuclear family; there will be more niche tours and bespoke options catering for solo parents, blended families and skip-gen," Mr Thornton said.
"As a nation, we no longer define adventure travel based on adrenaline activities. Forty-three per cent say adventure travel is about getting off-the-beaten track and 26 per cent say it's about seeing something new."
He said women are leading the way on solo adventures and travel to the Middle East is rising in popularity. Forgotten destinations like Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Moldova, Greenland and Kazakhstan are also making a comeback.
