HOUSEHOLDS in NSW could save up to $1000 a year on power bills at the click of a mouse.
A new government initiative is being launched in a bid to help thousands of consumers who are struggling to pay their electricity bills.
The Service NSW 'One Click Energy Switch' initiative will allow households to compare and switch energy providers and was announced by the NSW Government which has vowed to shake up the electricity market a week out from the state budget.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the new free service, in which Service NSW staff will search for better energy deals for consumers, could help a typical household save more than $1000 a year on their bills.
"One-Click Energy Switch will not only find you a cheaper energy bill, it will allow you to change your provider with a click of a mouse or a quick chat with our Service NSW staff," Ms Berejiklian said.
The government said the new service will be more convenient than a simple comparison website.
Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said navigating the list of energy providers can be a complicated task and the new tool is designed to make the process simpler and easier.
Service NSW will check your usage through your energy bill, search the market for available plans and if you can save money, then help you change providers.
The program will be piloted in coming months across Service Centres in Wynyard, Lismore, Parramatta, Taree and Wetherill Park, with a wider state rollout later this year.
