TRAIN buffs flocked to Mount Victoria in the NSW Blue Mountains at the weekend to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Great Western train line.
The Great Train Weekend saw a steam train shuttle passengers back and forth from Lithgow as well as an old rail motor travelling to and from Katoomba.
The steam train was hauled by a Garratt 6029 engine, the same kind of engine used on freight trains on the line during the 1950s and 60s.
Organisers were overwhelmed with the public response to the event, which also included a Light Horse parade and the unveiling of a plaque by Lieutenant-Governor Tom Bathurst.
Movie guru David Stratton was on hand over the weekend to introduce screenings of The General, a silent film starring Buster Keaton, at Mount Vic Flicks.
