AN INVITATION to have a longneck for breakfast is not an inducement for an early-morning tipple at Alpaca Magic.
Rather, it’s a wonderful opportunity to meet some of the 200 alpacas and llamas resident at the 100-hectare stud just outside Canberra.
Breakfast with the Alpacas is a regular event at the property, with the next breakfast scheduled for December 12 from 8.30-10am.
There you find the answers to such questions as what is the difference between alpacas and llamas and why is their fleece considered the “fibre of the gods”.
As well as a enjoying a complimentary barbecue breakfast, visitors will up get close and personal with some of the 200 alpacas and llamas (known collectively as camelids) and give them treats.
Another option is the Llama Experience – where you get to lead “your” llama on a one-hour stroll through the lovely countryside with an experienced guide. The walk also includes a 30-minute introductory workshop where you can learn all about llamas (including how to gain their trust), feed them treats and take selfies galore!
Alpaca Magic is also a haven for crafty types, hosting workshops covering everything from learning to spin, felting alpaca fibre and weaving. And, of course, you can buy raw fibre, carded fibre and knitting yarn to make wonderful creations at home.
If you want to go further and buy a camelid, the stud can provide you with all the advice you need to know before taking the step.
Alpaca Magic is owned by Glynda Bluhm, who has been involved in keeping and breeding livestock since 1968.
