HE'S the senior superstar who's outsold the likes of Madonna and Elton John. And next year Dutch violin sensation Andre Rieu will bring his live show to Australia for three performances.
Dubbed the King of Waltz, the famous fiddler knows how to draw a crowd, with his orchestral tours attracting more than 600,000 people a year to hear his eclectic mix of waltz, score music, musical and operatic numbers.
Tickets for the Australian leg of his 2018 world tour go on sale on December 4. He will play Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena on November 17, ICC Sydney on November 21 and Perth Arena on November 24.
Together with his 60-strong Johann Strauss Orchestra - which this year celebrates its 30th anniversary - Rieu has been credited with the revival of waltz music around the world.
The platinum-selling maestro said it is fantastic to "feel this energy and joy every evening" when performing.
"People write to me, telling me that it takes them two weeks to get back to normal after one of our shows," he said.
Rieu has topped the world charts 30 times, received more than 500 platinum awards and three Brit awards for the album of the year, and more 2.4 million fans follow him on Facebook.
He's been married for more than 40 years. Together with his wife Marjorie, he lives in a castle built in 1452 in his hometown of Maastricht, Netherlands. They have two sons and five grandchildren.
Next year Rieu will perform in Germany, Mexico, Israel, Eastern and Northern Europe, the Netherlands and Argentina before heading to Australia.
