FOR the past few months a group of unlikely singers have gathered weekly to harmonise as a choir – and they make their first public local debut on Sunday 10 September.
The 30-strong group are members of Kallangur-based Sing to Beat Parkinson’s choir, part in international research inspired in the UK, to evaluate whether singing can improve communication skills, a common symptom lost with the progressive neurological condition.
The choir will be part of the fun and games at a Picnic in the Park awareness raiser, organised by the Caboolture Support Group of Parkinson’s Queensland.
The family event, at Caboolture’s Centenary Lakes is from 10am until 2pm and includes a sausage sizzle, face painting and musical interludes by Dakabin State High School Band as well.
Take a picnic lunch, wear a purple garment for a free ticket in the lucky draw and show support for the Parkinson’s community.
The research is undertaken by Griffith University’s Queensland Conservatorium of Music.
