AN EXHIBITION of works by renowned Australian photographer Harold Cazneaux is on display at the South Australian Maritime Museum.
Through a different lens – Cazneaux by the Water will continue until October 15.
Harold Cazneaux became very interested in the idea of photography as a form of art in the late 19th century and became well known for his explorations of the nuances of life in Adelaide.
He was fascinated by water, which served as a great medium to experiment with ways of conveying mood, atmosphere and impression on the picture plane.
The exhibition features more than 42 original works and encompasses all dimensions of his art.
Senior museum curator Lindl Lawton said some of the most “exquisite and iconic” historical images of Australian life and industry on the water feature in the exhibition.
“In the 1930s Cazneaux made several road trips to South Australia in his old Buick, drawn, as he was in Sydney, to the delicious play of light on our rivers and harbours,” she said.
