AS THE days get cooler curling up with a good book becomes a more popular past time. But what to read?
The Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and the provider of the country's leading library system Civica have released a list of the most popular books borrowed from libraries in the last 12 months.
The list shows Aussies have an appetite for crime and thriller novels with titles in the genre taking the spots in the top 10 most borrowed books and making up three quarters of all borrowed books in total.
Lee Child's Make Me from the Jack Reacher series was the most borrowed book followed by last year's number one The Girl On The Train by Paula Hawkins.
Home grown books were also a hit with titles including Di Morrisey's Rain Music and Judy Nunn's Spirit of the Ghan proving popular.
"We've always loved stories about ourselves," said ALIA's chief executive Sue McKerracher.
"Tales that explore our heritage and identity, address what it means to be an Australia, continue to resonate with readers."
The list was released to coincide with Library and Information Week from May 22-28.
