FEBRUARY 14 is a day for the lovers - especially the book lovers.
Libraries across the country will today celebrate Library Lovers' Day.
Readers can spread the library love in lots of different ways.
Some libraries will have balloons and chocolates, others have organised blind book dates - where patrons borrow a mystery book wrapped in brown paper.
"What's a blind date with a book? Well, library staff encourage customers to choose a book based only on a description. Borrowers choose a book based on the descriptions without knowing the title of the book," said Australian Library and Information Association chief executive Sue McKerracher.
"Think of it like reading someone's online dating profile."
There are even blind dates at some libraries, where readers are matched with people with similar interests.
"Whatever their interests, there's something for everyone," Ms McKerracher said.
The day started as a way to celebrate the love of reading.
Ms McKerracher said libraries were a fantastic community resource.
They're also not just books, with many libraries offering social clubs, classes and technology.
"If you don't have a computer at home you can go to the library and use the PC," she said.
"We also have staff who are experts in technology."
There are more than eight million library members in Australia, with one third of the population active members.
